Healthy Food You Can Enjoy Eating Today

Everyone said they like our post on Healthy Food You Can Eat Everyday so here's additional information we gathered for you:

Beans
Beans are fat-free, high in protein, fiber, iron and folic acid; all good stuff. I make a large batch of pinto beans with whole tomatoes (and my secret spices) and enjoy a few burritos or chilli meals whenever I have the time. It is easy to freeze in meal size containers. They'll fill you up without the calories.

Blueberries, Cranberries, Blackberries,
Raspberries and Strawberries

Berries are great and blueberries top the list for their healthy content of antioxidants says the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. Antioxidants ward off cell-damaging molecules, which can lead to chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease. When buying yogurt I always go for the product with the most blueberries.

Whole Grains
Starting the day with a bowl of oatmeal isn't my favorite, but soluble fiber from oats helps lower blood cholesterol levels. Select products with whole grains and opt for the oatmeal variety when you have the choice - lots of vitamins.

Nuts
Nuts contain lots of healthy fats that help lower your cholesterol levels; again they prevent heart disease. They are also a good source of protein, fiber, selenium, and vitamins (A & E). I keep a snack bowl of almonds and walnuts in my office, but eat cautiously given they also contain plenty of calories. A handful a day will do it.

Eggs
They're bad, no they're good - which is it? Eggs got a bad rap by the press, but the truth is eggs are great because they are packed with protein and carotenoids (great for pregnant women). Eggs are also good for your eyes and help fight blindness as we age. An egg a day is ok as long as you don't over due your daily consumption of other foods high in cholesterol.

Fish
Salmon and tuna are both rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which is good for your heart because they lower blood fats and help prevent blood clots. Go with the American Heart Association's recommendation and eat fish at least twice a week.

Healthy Food You Should Eat Everyday

Carrots
Carrots are full of beta carotene (vitamin A), good for your eyes, and easy to keep in the frig. Eat them raw when possible given cooking carrots tends to diminish the benefits.

Apples
Apples are very beneficial to your health and apples contain more Vitamin C than an orange. Also, they are full of antioxidants that help prevent diseases. Eat apple slices as a snack or add them to your salads.

Yams
I love yams! They are rich in Vitamin B6, which is great for your heart. In addition, they are also high in potassium (controls blood pressure).

Olives
Green or black, olives are an excellent source of Vitamin E, iron, copper and dietary fiber. I eat them right out of the jar.

Onions
Onions contain flavonoids, which are good for you, and eating onions has been shown to help lower blood pressure.

Flaxseed
Flaxseed is a grain known to be beneficial, particularly for women. Small amounts eaten daily can help maintain your bone health and reduce the risk of breast cancer. This website offers extensive info on flaxseed and flaxseed oil.

Tomatoes

Garlic
There are numerous benefits for garlic: lowers blood pressure, reduces cholesterol, and may even help prevent cancer of the stomach.

Green Tea
Rich in antioxidants, green tea promotes a healthy immune system.

Cranberries
Cranberries are good for your urinary tract and they are also rich in vitamins and antioxidants and vitamins. Go for the natural juice, skip the 10% juice cocktails, or just eat cranberries.
