Food That Lowers Your Cholesterol

Certain foods have been shown to help lower cholesterol levels and they taste a lot better than those expensive pills - no side effects either. Skip the grocery store pharmacy and go right to the food section! Specifically, researchers have found that foods rich in sterols or stanols are helping people naturally lower their cholesterol levels.

What foods can help reduce your bad LDL cholesterol levels?
  • Fatty fish
  • Walnuts
  • Oatmeal, and
  • Oat bran
Although people with high cholesterol should always consult with a qualified health care professional, some studies have shown that a diet combining these foods may work as well as some medicines and the FDA likes the research results according to an article in a recent WebMD newsletter.

A bowl of oatmeal or a few servings of walnuts won't make you healthy. Exercise and setting limits on fatty foods is still required to keep you clear of cholesterol.
