NY City Mayor Bloomberg Calls on Personal Trainers

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is asking 100 personal trainers in the New York City area to volunteer their time and expertise to help overweight, unhealthy New Yorkers.

Over a dozen recreation facilities in New York City offer free fitness classes and instruction to more than 1,500 people per week. The instructors have been paid for their work but due to budget constraints Bloomberg is asking Personal Trainers and Fitness Instructors to volunteer his or her time so the participants can continue to benefit.

The classes, funded by the Health Department, target neighborhoods with the highest levels of obesity and diabetes. The conditions are reversable with proper diet, exercise and fitness education.

Are you a personal trainer in the NY City area? If so, consider getting involved and giving back to the community - volunteer work can be very rewarding. To find out more information about this program and how you can make a difference, contact the NYC Parks and Recreation Department at www.nyc.gov/parks. Click on the option to Volunteer.
